How to Use Simple Memo
From download to sending memos and offline usage. Master Simple Memo in 5 easy steps.
Step 1: Download & Setup
- Download from App Store — Search "Simple Memo" or use the direct link below.
- Set your email address — The app opens straight to the memo screen and asks for the destination address the first time you send a memo (you can also enter it first under Settings → "To"). Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, anything works.
- Verify with 6-digit code — Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email to complete setup.
Step 2: Write & Send
- Open the app — Launches in 0.4 seconds (warm launch, iPhone 16e) with the text input ready.
- Type your memo — Write down whatever comes to mind. The first line becomes the subject, so starting it with a tag like "[TODO]" makes categorization easy.
- Tap send — One tap sends it to your email address.
- Text auto-clears — Screen resets after sending, ready for your next memo.
Step 3: Check Email
Your memos arrive in the inbox of your configured email address. Check them in your regular email app. Use it as a GTD inbox to dramatically simplify task management.
Step 4: Works Offline
No worries on the subway or airplane. Outbox architecture stores memos you send while offline with AES-GCM encryption on your device. When you reconnect, they are resent automatically (automatic retries have a limit; resend a memo that reaches it from History).
Step 5: Go Premium
The free plan allows 3 sends per day, with no time limit. Premium ($2.99/month or $29.99/year) unlocks unlimited sends, perfect for heavy memo users.
Pro Tips
1. Tag the First Line
The first line becomes the subject, so start it with a tag like "[Shopping]", "[Idea]" or "[TODO]" for easy email filtering and auto-sorting on the receiving end. To put the same tag on every memo, enter it under Subject in Settings and it is added to the front of each subject.
2. Set Up Notification Filters
Set up email rules to route Simple Memo messages to a specific folder, keeping your notifications organized and manageable.
3. Send with Siri
Once setup is complete, say "Hey Siri, send a memo with Simple Memo" and speak the note when Siri asks; it is sent without opening the app (lock settings and device state can still require unlocking). To open the app and start voice input instead, say "Start a voice memo with Simple Memo" (voice input starts on its own on iOS 26 or later with a supported device and language; on earlier versions the memo screen just opens). Both phrases are registered by the app, so no custom shortcut is needed.
What NOT to Do
- Don't use it as a notebook — Simple Memo is designed for "send and forget." It's not meant for long drafts or editing. The trick is to fire off a thought the moment it hits you.
- Don't delay sending — Send your memo right after writing it. If you think "I'll send it later," you risk forgetting. Write it, tap send, done.
