Typing, saving and sending
Being ready to type, saving on the device and receiving a note at its destination are different endpoints. Here are the August 11 typing-readiness records and the conditions needed to compare saving and sending.
The eight-app records measure a warm launch from the icon tap to typing readiness. Simple Memo recorded a median of 0.4s across five runs, ranging from 0.366 to 0.433s. This is not time to finish typing, save a note, deliver email or update Obsidian. The old combined save/send ranking is withdrawn until comparable endpoint records are available.
Conditions for typing readiness
The measurements were made by the Simple Memo developer, not an independent testing organization. This article corrects and explains retained records; it does not report a new device test in September.
- Date: August 11, 2026. Device: iPhone 16e (A18). OS: iOS 26.5.2. Our app version: 5.7.3.
- Start: tap the home-screen app icon. End: the keyboard is presented and the note body accepts input.
- Necessary intermediate taps are included. Typing, saving, sending and syncing are excluded.
- The recorded condition is warm launch, not cold launch or entry through a lock-screen control, widget or shortcut.
- Different devices, versions and entry paths can produce different results. These figures are not a speed guarantee for every current user.

Typing readiness for eight apps: read the ranges

Drafts uses a different statistic. Its 0.9s headline is the fastest of five runs; its median is 1.45s. The five values are 0.900 / 1.550 / 1.450 / 1.383 / 1.567s. We do not rank this fastest run against the other apps’ medians as typical performance.
The five Bear runs resumed into an existing note with its keyboard open. Apple Notes and several other apps include extra taps to compose a new note. Equivalent editor-resume paths for those apps were not compared. Small decimal differences do not establish superiority; check whether the measured path resembles your own use.
Saving, sending and syncing have different endpoints
Saved on the device
The note remains available when you close and reopen it. That alone does not show whether it has reached another device or an email inbox.
Sending accepted
A confirmation screen or a move into a queue can happen before the recipient receives the message. A quick screen transition is not a measurement of email delivery.
Readable at the destination
The body can be opened in the intended inbox or connected app. Network, delivery and destination state matter, so this endpoint differs from local saving. Offline queueing must be distinguished from completed delivery.
This article does not publish save/send values measured against these matched endpoints. Nor do we add a historical launch figure to a send figure from another day. Measure each trial from its start to its intended endpoint, then calculate the median of those trial totals.
Check speed in your own workflow
- Choose one destination. Pick the place where you will reread the note: a local notebook, an inbox or an Obsidian vault.
- Use your usual entry path. Do not mix home-screen, widget and voice-entry paths in one timing. Include the taps and typing your workflow requires.
- Repeat with the same text and conditions. Record the app version, device, network and launch state. Keep slow and failed trials; report the median and range.
- Open the result. Go beyond a saved/sent indication and check the note at its intended destination. Being able to find it again days later is also relevant to choosing a tool.
To try Simple Memo as an input route to Obsidian, start with the integration requirements . A launch figure does not establish time to arrival in a vault or how well a habit will last.

May I cite these measurement records?
Include the source link and the conditions: August 11, 2026, iPhone 16e, warm launch and time to typing readiness. Retain the developer-measurement disclosure, run counts, ranges and the fact that Drafts alone uses its fastest run. Do not cite the withdrawn combined save/send ranking.
Can I send a note in 0.4 seconds?
The recorded 0.4 seconds is the median time until Simple Memo accepts typing. It is not time to finish typing, save a note, deliver email or update Obsidian.
Are cold launches or Android equally fast?
This table records warm launches on an iPhone 16e. It does not establish the same result for cold launches, other devices or Android.
Why was the save/send ranking withdrawn?
The old table contained inconsistent totals and mixed local saving with email sending. The retained material did not allow verification of each trial. That ranking will not be republished without comparable records.
