Memo App Comparison

Simple Memo vs Todoist
Which Should You Choose?

Todoist saves what you enter as a task. Simple Memo delivers a short note to your own email. Both let you organize later. Choose according to what you need after capture: tracking completion or reading the note in your inbox.

This comparison is written by the developer of Simple Memo. Todoist features were checked against the official sources below. We have not run a controlled speed comparison between the two apps and do not rank their capture speed.

Todoist Quick Add supports organizing later

Tasks without a specified project go to the Todoist Inbox, where you can organize them later. This corrects our earlier claim that Quick Add requires project selection. See the official Inbox guide.

If you already review Todoist daily, entering tasks directly avoids copying them from a second inbox. Simple Memo is an option for ideas you have not decided to act on, or notes you want to review alongside email.

Two ways to process the same meeting note

Example: “Send the proposal to Company A by Friday.” If this is already a committed task you manage in Todoist, enter it there. If you also need the discussion and proposal ideas, capture a note and extract the action later. These are workflow examples, not measured task timings.

  1. Direct task: Add “Send proposal to Company A” to Todoist, set the date, then mark it complete when done.
  2. Email first: Send yourself “Company A meeting | proposal due Friday | add a case study” with Simple Memo.
  3. Review: Manually add the action to Todoist when reviewing email. Keep supporting context in the email.
  4. Close the duplicate: Archive the processed email and track execution in Todoist.

See the meeting capture example and email review guide. Two inboxes mean two places to check; keep everything in Todoist if copying between them feels like extra work.

FAQ

Does Todoist Quick Add require project selection?

No. A task without a specified project goes to the Inbox and can be moved later.

Which captures faster?

We have not performed a controlled comparison. Try the same text on your device and compare the entire workflow, including any copying needed after saving.

Can Simple Memo automatically add tasks to Todoist?

This page describes reviewing email and manually adding tasks. We have not verified direct delivery to a Todoist intake address through Simple Memo’s destination verification, so we do not present it as a working setup.

When does using both make sense?

If you review email daily and want to keep non-task notes there, move only committed actions to Todoist. If Todoist alone already works for you, another inbox is unnecessary.
