LINE Keepは、2015年にLINEアプリ内に追加されたストレージ機能です。トーク画面でやりとりしたテキスト、画像、動画、リンク、ファイルなどを「Keep」に保存して、いつでも見返せるという機能でした。LINEを使うほぼ全ての日本のユーザー、つまり数千万人規模が日常的にアクセスできる機能であり、多くの人が「ちょっとしたメモ」「買い物リスト」「忘れたくないURL」をKeepに放り込んでいました。

LINE Keepの最大の魅力は「追加インストール不要」「LINEを開けば即アクセス」という手軽さでした。わざわざメモアプリを開く必要がなく、日常的に使っているLINEの中で完結する。この「ゼロステップの手軽さ」がLINE Keepを事実上の国民的メモ機能にしていました。

しかし2024年8月28日、LINE Keepは正式にサービスを終了しました。保存されていたデータは全て削除され、ユーザーは事前にデータをダウンロードする必要がありました。突然の終了に戸惑い、テキストメモの新しい保存先を探す人が今も増え続けています。

LINE Keep was a storage feature added to the LINE messaging app in 2015. It allowed users to save text, images, videos, links, and files from their chat conversations into a personal "Keep" folder for later access. With LINE being the dominant messaging platform in Japan used by tens of millions, Keep became the de facto memo feature for a huge portion of the population. People routinely saved quick notes, shopping lists, and URLs they didn't want to forget.

LINE Keep's greatest appeal was its zero-friction access: no additional app to install, just open LINE and your saved items were right there. This seamless integration within an app people already used daily made LINE Keep the country's unofficial national memo feature.

On August 28, 2024, LINE Keep officially shut down. All stored data was deleted, and users had to manually download their data beforehand. The abrupt shutdown left many searching for a new place to store their text memos -- a search that continues to this day.

LINE Keepは便利な機能でしたが、ストレージコストの増大、利用率に対するメンテナンスコスト、そしてコア事業との直接的な関連性の薄さから、サービス継続が合理的でないと判断されたと推測されています。LINEヤフーは公式に「サービスの最適化」の一環と説明しましたが、詳細な理由は明かされていません。

重要な点として、LINE Keep Memo（Keepメモ）は現在も利用可能です。LINE Keep MemoはLINE内の自分専用トークルームで、テキストや画像を送る形でメモを残せます。ただし、旧LINE Keepとは異なり、ファイルの整理・分類機能がなく、あくまでトーク形式でのメモに限定されます。

Several factors contributed to LINE Keep's shutdown. In October 2023, LINE's parent company merged with Z Holdings to form LY Corporation. This massive restructuring led to a review of LINE's service portfolio, with a renewed focus on core features like messaging and voice calls.

While LINE Keep was a popular feature, the combination of growing storage costs, maintenance overhead relative to usage, and weak ties to the core business likely made continued operation unjustifiable. LY Corporation officially cited "service optimization" but didn't elaborate further.

Important note: LINE Keep Memo is still available. LINE Keep Memo is a private chat room within LINE where you can send yourself text and images as notes. However, unlike the original LINE Keep, it lacks file organization and categorization -- it's limited to a chat-style memo format.

• 即座にメモを残せること（Quick Capture）: LINE Keepの最大の強みは「LINEを開くだけ」というアクセスの速さでした。わざわざ別のアプリを起動して、フォルダを選んで、タイトルを付けて...という手順は不要。テキストを入力して保存、これだけ。代替アプリにも同じ「1秒以内に書き始められる」体験が求められます。
• 複雑なUIなしのテキスト保存: LINE Keepユーザーの多くは、高機能なノートアプリを必要としていません。フォルダ構造もタグシステムもMarkdown記法も不要。「テキストを入力して保存する」というシンプルな操作だけが必要です。多くの人がLINE Keepを「自分にLINEを送る」感覚で使っていました。
• プライバシーと安心感: LINE Keepにテキストを保存していた人の中には、パスワードの一時メモ、個人的な考え事、仕事のアイデアなど、プライベートな情報を記録していた方も多いはず。代替アプリには最低限のプライバシー保護が期待されます。

Now that LINE Keep is gone, former users' requirements for a replacement boil down to three essentials:

• Instant capture: LINE Keep's greatest strength was zero-friction access -- just open LINE and you're there. No launching a separate app, choosing a folder, or adding a title. Type, save, done. Any replacement must let users start writing within 1 second.
• Simple text storage without complex UI: Most LINE Keep users didn't need a full-featured note app. No folder hierarchies, tag systems, or Markdown syntax required. Just "type text and save it." Many used LINE Keep like sending a message to themselves.
• Privacy and peace of mind: People stored all kinds of personal information in LINE Keep -- temporary password notes, private thoughts, work ideas. Any replacement should offer at least basic privacy protection.

筆者が開発したアプリのため、バイアスがある可能性がある点をご了承ください。SimpleMemoは「テキストメモをワンタップで自分のメールに送る」に特化したiOSアプリです。アプリ起動から0.3秒でカーソルが入力位置にフォーカスし、テキストを書いて送信ボタンをタップすると、150ms以内に自分のメールアドレスにメモが届きます。

LINE Keepとの最大の違いは「メモの保存先」です。LINE KeepはLINEアプリ内にデータを保存していましたが、SimpleMemoはメモを自分のメールに送信します。つまり、メモはGmailやOutlookの受信箱に残り、メールアプリで検索・整理が可能です。メモアプリのサービスが終了しても、メールに届いたメモは永続的に残ります。

セキュリティ面では、AES-GCM暗号化で端末内のキューデータを保護し、サーバーにメモデータを一切保持しません。オフラインでもメモを書いて送信キューに入れることができ、通信回復後に自動送信されます。

正直な弱点: SimpleMemoはテキスト専用です。LINE Keepで画像や動画を保存していた方には不向きです。また、iOS専用でAndroidには非対応。料金は無料プラン（1日3通）と有料プラン（月額500円）があります。

iPhoneに最初からインストールされている標準メモアプリです。テキスト、画像、手書き、チェックリスト、表、スキャン文書など、ほぼ全ての種類のメモに対応しています。LINE Keepで画像とテキストの両方を保存していた方にとって、最も「全部入り」の選択肢です。

起動速度は1.2秒で、SimpleMemoの0.3秒には及びませんが、十分実用的な速度です。iCloud同期によりiPhone、iPad、Macで自動同期され、オフラインでも利用可能。iCloudの暗号化により、Apple NotesのデータはApple側でも読めないエンドツーエンド暗号化が適用されます。

弱点は「シンプルさの欠如」です。Apple Notesを開くと、フォルダ一覧が表示され、新規メモを作成するにはフォルダを選んでから「新規作成」をタップする必要があります。LINE Keepの「開いたら即書ける」体験とは異なり、メモを書き始めるまでに数ステップ必要です。また、長く使うとメモが大量に溜まり、整理の手間が増えていきます。

Googleが提供する無料のメモアプリで、Android/iOS/Webの全プラットフォームで利用可能です。LINE Keepと同様に、テキスト、画像、チェックリスト、音声メモなど多様な形式のメモに対応しています。Googleアカウントがあれば即座に使い始められるため、特にAndroidユーザーにとっては最も自然な乗り換え先です。

起動速度は1.5秒で、メモ一覧画面が表示されます。右下の「+」ボタンで新規メモを作成する形式で、LINE Keepの手軽さに比較的近い体験です。ラベルやリマインダー、色分けなど整理機能も充実しています。オフラインでの利用も可能です。

弱点は2つ。第一に、Googleアカウントが必須であり、メモデータはGoogleのサーバーに保存されます。エンドツーエンド暗号化は提供されておらず、プライバシーを重視するユーザーには不向きです。第二に、Google Keepは「永続的にサポートされる」保証がありません。Googleは過去にGoogle Reader、Inbox by Gmail、Google+など多数のサービスを終了しており、LINE Keepと同じ運命をたどるリスクがゼロではありません。

Notionは「オールインワン・ワークスペース」として、ノート、データベース、Wiki、プロジェクト管理を1つのアプリに統合した高機能ツールです。LINE Keepの「ちょっとしたメモ」の代替としては明らかにオーバースペックですが、将来的にメモの活用を広げたい方には強力な選択肢です。

起動速度は2.5秒で、比較対象の中で最も遅い部類です。初期画面ではワークスペースの階層構造が表示され、新規ページを作成するにも複数ステップが必要。LINE Keepの「開いたら即メモ」とは正反対の体験です。

弱点は明確で、「ちょっとしたテキストメモを素早く残す」という用途にNotionは向いていません。起動が遅く、UIが複雑で、学習コストが高い。エンドツーエンド暗号化も提供されていません。LINE Keepの代替というよりは、「これを機にメモの使い方を根本的に見直したい」という方向けです。無料プランでも基本機能は使えますが、ゲストの招待数やアップロード容量に制限があります。

LINE Keep終了後も残っている「Keepメモ」は、LINE内の自分専用トークルームです。テキスト、画像、スタンプなどを自分だけのトーク画面に送ることでメモとして残せます。LINE Keepの完全な代替ではありませんが、LINEユーザーにとって最も違和感なく移行できる選択肢です。

起動速度は1.8秒（LINE起動後にKeepメモのトーク画面を開くまでの時間）。使い方は通常のLINEトークと同じで、テキストを入力して送信するだけ。この「LINEの操作感そのまま」という点が最大の強みです。

弱点は、旧LINE Keepにあったファイル整理・分類・検索機能がないことです。メモがトーク形式で時系列に並ぶだけなので、古いメモを探すのが困難になります。また、オフラインではメモを送信できず、暗号化も端末レベルのみ。LINEのサーバーにデータが保存されるため、プライバシー面での不安もあります。さらに、LINEアプリ自体がかなりの容量を占めるため、メモ機能のためだけにLINEを維持するのは非効率かもしれません。

Full disclosure: the author developed this app, so please account for potential bias. SimpleMemo is an iOS app focused on "sending text memos to your own email in one tap." It launches in 0.3 seconds with cursor ready, and delivers your memo to your email in under 150ms.

The key difference from LINE Keep is where memos are stored. LINE Keep stored data within the LINE app itself, while SimpleMemo sends memos to your email inbox (Gmail, Outlook, etc.). This means your memos are searchable in your email app and persist even if SimpleMemo ceases to exist.

Security features include AES-GCM encryption for on-device queue data, zero server-side data retention, and offline support with automatic send when connectivity returns.

Honest limitations: SimpleMemo is text-only. If you stored images or videos in LINE Keep, this app won't cover that need. It's also iOS-only with no Android support. Pricing includes a free tier (3 sends/day) and a paid plan ($4/month).

The built-in note app on every iPhone. Supports text, images, handwriting, checklists, tables, and scanned documents. For LINE Keep users who stored both text and images, Apple Notes is the most comprehensive replacement.

Launch speed is 1.2 seconds -- not as fast as SimpleMemo's 0.3s but practical enough. iCloud sync keeps everything in sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Offline access works, and iCloud provides end-to-end encryption.

The weakness is complexity. Opening Apple Notes shows a folder list, and creating a new note requires selecting a folder then tapping "New." Unlike LINE Keep's "open and write" simplicity, Apple Notes adds several steps before you start typing. Over time, notes pile up and become harder to manage.

Google's free memo app, available on Android, iOS, and the web. Like LINE Keep, it supports text, images, checklists, and voice memos. For Android users especially, Google Keep is the most natural transition from LINE Keep.

Launch speed is 1.5 seconds. The "+" button for new notes is immediately accessible, making the experience reasonably close to LINE Keep's ease of use. Labels, reminders, and color-coding help with organization. Offline access is supported.

Two weaknesses stand out. First, a Google account is required and all data is stored on Google servers without end-to-end encryption -- not ideal for privacy-conscious users. Second, Google's track record of shutting down services (Google Reader, Inbox, Google+) means there's a non-zero risk of the same fate befalling Google Keep.

Notion combines notes, databases, wikis, and project management into one all-in-one workspace. It's clearly overkill as a LINE Keep replacement for quick memos, but it's a powerful option for those who want to expand how they use notes in the future.

Launch speed is 2.5 seconds -- the slowest in this comparison. The initial screen shows a workspace hierarchy, and creating a new page takes multiple steps. The opposite of LINE Keep's "open and memo" experience.

The weaknesses are clear: Notion is not suited for quick text memos. Slow launch, complex UI, steep learning curve, and no end-to-end encryption. It's better suited for users who want to fundamentally rethink their note-taking workflow. The free plan is functional but has limitations on guest invitations and upload sizes.

LINE Keep Memo, which survived the LINE Keep shutdown, is a private chat room within LINE. You can send text, images, and stickers to yourself as notes. It's not a full replacement for LINE Keep, but it's the most seamless transition for LINE users.

Launch takes 1.8 seconds (time to open the Keep Memo chat after launching LINE). Usage is identical to regular LINE chat: type and send. This "same as LINE" familiarity is its biggest strength.

Weaknesses include the loss of LINE Keep's file organization and search features. Memos are just chat messages in chronological order, making it hard to find older notes. No offline capability, device-level-only encryption, and data stored on LINE's servers raise privacy concerns. Also, maintaining the large LINE app just for memo functionality may not be efficient.
